Update: Temporary transition to Weekly Maintenance Schedule

As part of our ongoing commitment to delivering the highest level of service, we are excited to inform you of an upcoming change to our maintenance schedule.

Starting immediately and continuing until June 2024, we will be transitioning from a bi-weekly to a weekly maintenance schedule. The full schedule for 2024 can be found here.

Why the Change?

To further reduce the risk of service disruption associated with maintenance windows, we are introducing separate shorter windows for Software Releases and Infrastructure Changes. This approach not only decreases the overall risk but also facilitates better assessment and planning, enabling us to achieve a smoother workflow associated with planning and executing changes.

In 2020, Puzzel successfully transitioned from a quarterly to a bi-weekly release cycle, resulting in a noteworthy reduction in both incidents and bugs following our releases. This demonstrated the effectiveness of more frequent updates. Moving from a bi-weekly to a weekly maintenance schedule is an evolution of this success, aiming to refine our approach even further.

Key benefits:

  • Improved Change Management: We recognise the importance of minimising disruptions, and our commitment to enhancing service quality involves a focus on making changes smaller and more controlled. This approach facilitates easier identification of root causes in case of potential issues caused by a change. Additionally, the ability to roll back changes becomes more seamless, ensuring a smoother experience for our valued customers
  • Risk Mitigation: By transitioning to more frequent maintenance windows, we are not only reducing the volume of changes within each maintenance window but also carefully scaling down the size of each update. This approach allows us to proactively manage and mitigate potential risks more effectively. Smaller, more controlled updates mean quicker issue resolution, minimising the impact on service continuity.
  • Reduced Maintenance Window Period: With a reduction of number of changes in each window, we are now able to optimise the duration of each maintenance window. Going forward, our Maintenance Windows will be shortened to occur between 21:00 and 01:00 CET, and high risk changes will be performed in the end of these intervals.
  • Aligning with Industry Standards: Research indicates that increasing deployment frequency while reducing the size of each deployment change improves overall quality. This shift aligns with industry best practices observed in other B2B SaaS software.

We want to assure you that this transition is a step towards providing you with a more controlled, reliable, and efficient service. Our goal is to make changes smaller, more manageable, and less disruptive, ultimately enhancing your experience with our services.

We appreciate your understanding and support during this transition. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to our support team.
