Update: Permanent Transition to Weekly Maintenance Schedule

In February 2024, we informed you about a temporary transition to a weekly maintenance schedule. After observing the benefits of a more frequent maintenance schedule, we've decided to continue with our weekly maintenance schedule on a permanent basis starting from August.

Benefits of Weekly Maintenance Windows

Improved Change Management: We recognise the importance of minimising disruptions, and our commitment to enhancing service quality involves a focus on making changes smaller and more controlled. This approach facilitates easier identification of root causes in case of potential issues caused by a change. Additionally, the ability to roll back changes becomes more seamless, ensuring a smoother experience for our valued customers

Risk Mitigation: By continuing with weekly maintenance windows, we are able to keep the volume of changes within each maintenance window low, and also continue to scale down the size of each update. This allows us to proactively manage and mitigate potential risks more effectively. Smaller, more controlled updates mean quicker issue resolution, minimising the impact on service continuity.

Reduced Maintenance Window Period: With a weekly schedule, we will be able to continue with a reduced maintenance period, where maintenance windows last between 21:00 and 01:00 CET, and high risk changes being performed in the end of these intervals.

Aligning with Industry Standards: Research indicates that increasing deployment frequency while reducing the size of each deployment change improves overall quality. Continuing with weekly maintenance aligns with industry best practices observed in other B2B SaaS software.

Moving Forward

Our goal is to make changes smaller, more manageable, and less disruptive, ultimately improving your experience with our services. We are also focused on introducing feature flagging, which will further streamline our processes and eventually remove the need for separate release windows. This permanent transition is a critical step towards achieving that goal.
